Land Acknowledgement

People gather on a waterfront park at sunset with a boat on the water.

HOTT STUFF and HOTT DECK events take place on the Ottawa River and the Byward Market, within the traditional and unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinabeg Nation, who have lived on and cared for these lands and waters for millennia.

We recognize and honour the enduring presence, culture, traditions, and stewardship of the Algonquin Anishinabeg people, whose relationship with the Ottawa River and surrounding territory continues to this day.

As we gather together on these lands and waters to celebrate music, community, diversity, and Pride, we acknowledge the history of this land and our shared responsibility to support meaningful relationships, respect, and reconciliation with

Indigenous peoples.

We extend our respect to all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples who call the Ottawa region home, and honour the Elders, Knowledge Keepers, ancestors, and leaders—past, present, and future.
